I believe that each person is valuable, worthwhile and belongs in this world. After the stresses pile up, changes happen, trauma occurs, and pain deepens; it can be easy for people to believe they do not have value, or they have lost their understanding of their value. I believe that we were not meant to do this life alone and therefore, I believe people have been designed to be able to heal from the hard things that they have been through. They just may need someone to help teach them the proper skills and be given the space to be able to do that healing. Therefore, it is my desire to provide a calm, steady and warm presence while creating a safe and non-judgmental space for people as they engage with their pain and embark on their journey of healing. It is in this environment that I count it quite an honor and privilege to join with people wherever they are in life. We will work together so that they can understand themselves in a deeper way, and develop what they need in order to become the person they desire to be.
I specialize in working with those struggling with past trauma. I also work with a variety of challenges including anxiety, depression, grief & loss, life transitions, past sexual abuse, identity, spiritual issues, and relational conflicts. I especially enjoy working with young adults who are beginning to explore the world for themselves as they tend to have an openness to ask questions, to learn, and to grow. I also am passionate about walking with people through their darkest moments and helping them to learn how to recover from those darkest days. I do this by using modalities such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). I am a EMDR Certified Therapist, having completed over 20 hours of supervision, and over 50 EMDR sessions. Both of EMDR and TF-CBT are evidenced based models used to work with those who have experienced trauma or have gone through hard things. I also utilize Cognitive Behavioral and Psychodynamic techniques in my work and take a particular interest in spiritual formation by bringing together psychotherapy and spiritual growth for clients who want to deepen their faith perspective. I rely on my Christian faith to be my guiding foundation in all of my work while respecting the faith position of each of my clients and only incorporating one’s faith when requested. I see clients in person at both our East Petersburg and Lancaster locations, and also offer online therapy.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I completed my undergraduate and graduate work at Cairn University (formerly Philadelphia Biblical University), earning a Master of Science degree in Counseling. I have experience working in this field for over 16 years, offering therapy to children, adolescents, adults, and families. A portion of this time involved working with undergraduate students in the higher education setting. The remainder of my experience involved working in an outpatient setting.
Outside of the office, I like being adventurous, trying new things, being creative, and laughing. You will find me spending my time with friends and family doing things like visiting local coffee shops, trying new foods, and traveling. I enjoy activities like kayaking, biking, and trying to exercise my creative muscles by drawing, painting, and reading. I also enjoy spending time with my husband and my dog, Honey. I look forward to connecting with you and walking with you during this part of your journey.
